Hinduism not against celebrating Valentine’s Day

Posted in : Hinduism

(added last year!)

IN your report on Valentine’s Day, “Look at the rosy side of Valentine’s Day, PAS Youth urged” (The Star, Feb 8), Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS) treasurer G. Shanmugana-than had said that Valentine’s Day was against the practices of Hinduism.

I wish to ask him which part of Hinduism is against the celebration. His statement goes against the very spirit of Hinduism. Hinduism clearly practises love for one and all and never passes judgment on another. Every aspect of human life is embraced and no one is rejected. This is the Hinduism I know. Our religion practises open-mindedness and every act of the religion is open for question and analysis. We do not need self-appointed gurus to enforce their opinions and pass them as facts to the unsuspecting public. What this world needs is more love and less judging.
